Day 4 - Circumnavigation 2025
Hello once again from sunny Australia. I am still in picturesque Sydney, enjoying the stability of sleeping in the same bed for the two nights in a row.
The day started off with a quick breakfast at the hotel before heading out for a walk along the harbor. One of my favorite things to do is just start walking and see where I end up, most of the time this works out great. Other times this is not the best idea (i.e. South London), but today it was wonderful.
After my walk I returned to the hotel to get some work done before heading across the harbor to the National Maritime Museum. I often find maritime museums to be some of the best museums to visit and this one did not disappoint. While the main museum is pretty good, where it really shines is the ships you can go aboard. From a full scale replica of the HMB Endeavour to a Cold War destroyer there is a great selection of ships to explore. One of the ships required a guided tour and on it the guide asked if I was in the navy. I'm not terribly sure what made her think I was, but I’ll take it as a compliment. I’ve attached some photos of the museum below.
After this and a quick lunch at the museum cafe, where I once again had fish and chips I returned to the hotel to rest up. As the sun began to set I once again ventured out, retracing my path from the morning, but this time boarding a ferry to Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House. This was a great decision and led to some of the most scenic moments of the trip so far. I’ve attached a bunch of photos from this below. After walking around a bit I decided to walk back towards the hotel. This was quite a walk, but allowed me to see more of the city. I must note that Sydney is shockingly clean, truly like no where I’ve been before. I continued walking around a bit until being entranced by those golden arches of McDonalds. They definitely have some different menu items, although nothing crazy. I went with chicken wings which were ok, although chicken wings aren’t exactly my favorite food. The fries were awful though, I’m hoping it was just an off day for that McDonalds. Anyways I’ll be here for almost two more days, as I leave Sunday night to continue to Darwin and the trek towards New York.
