Day 8 - Circumnavigation 2025
Hello from wonderful Doha, Qatar. Today was another great day of travel and exploration. The travel portion of the day consisted of an awesome flight from Singapore to Doha aboard a Qatar Airways A350, traveling in one of their amazing Qsuites. They call it the world’s best business class and they may be right. The privacy with a closing door is unmatched and there is a ton of room to spread out and relax. It truly is an absurd way to travel.
I arrived into Doha on time and after quite the hike to immigration I was able to get my visa and take a taxi into the city. I am staying at the spectacular Park Hyatt Doha which might be one of my favorite hotels already. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, for example since I have an early flight tomorrow before breakfast is served they offered to have pastries and coffee brought up to my room tomorrow morning. This is the type of small things that make a good hotel great. Another quirk of the hotel is that entering the hotel you have to pass through a metal detector and your bag is x-rayed.
After getting some work done and waiting for the sun to go down I headed out to explore the wonderful city of Doha. I felt completely safe walking around, the only thing I would note is that there is not a ton of foot traffic so sometimes you do feel a bit on your own, but once again never felt uneasy at all.
My plan was to walk down to the waterfront to get some pictures, and after passing a random horse stable in the middle of the city (that I smelled before I saw) I eventually got there.
Shortly after arriving I made contact with a man offering harbor tours, and I couldn't resist an opportunity to feel like I was in a spy movie sailing around Doha alone. After some brief negotiations we settled on a price and headed out to sea. It was a great decision and quite the scenic journey. The breeze from the sea was also quite refreshing.
While originally I was the only one on the boat, eventually before we set sail some friends of the captain came aboard and my relaxing sail around the harbor was more like an Indian dance party for parts of it. They tried to get me to dance, but I assured them I was not capable.
After this adventure I decided I had explored enough for the night so I headed back towards the hotel. Back at the hotel it was time for my favorite activity, room service. I ordered pan seared sea bass which was delicious. After this I headed straight to bed, as I have an early morning tomorrow as I head to London.
